Who we are

The Tunde Ekpekurede Foundation exists to promote, organize, participate and collaborate in social enterprises aimed to significantly transform idle, underutilized and neglected human capital assets to productive, prosperous, engaged, aspiring and empowered persons in Nigeria. In the early nineties, Engr. Tunde & Dr. Mrs Faith Ekpekurede began organizing motivational seminars in Sapele, Delta State for youths of the town. By the late nineties Tunde and his wife, Faith have chosen to midwife a group of disempowered youths who were passionate with the game of football in Sapele. The club was named EKPEKUREDE FOOTBALL CLUB. The club participated in many local football competitions in Sapele and by early 2000s was the number one team in town. The club continued to push its boundaries and in 2007 became the number 1 club in Delta State after winning the State Division one cup sponsored by Ecobank and will later that year represent Delta State in the National competition in Oshogbo, Osun State.
In 2010, Tunde and his wife Faith, used their resources to set up a world class business School similar to what they have seen in MBA schools in Europe and America to raise the aspirations of young adults in Warri. The program trained nearly 1300 young adults in Warri and Lagos between 2010 and 2015. The school entered into partnership with numerous SMEs in Warri and Lagos providing them volunteer and temporary staff. By the end of 2015 nearly 80% of all students of the school were either in full employment or running successful businesses. After a visit to the African Leadership Academy in South Africa, Tunde and a colleague of his, Eng Joe Otejere embarked upon leadership and entrepreneurial training for teens. Between 2012 and 2015, the Youth Entrepreneurship and Leadership Academy they set up trained nearly 100 teenagers.

In early 2013 Tunde and his wife Faith, alarmed by the level of joblessness amongst unskilled adults decided to set up a vocational school with business and entrepreneurship classes built into the curriculum to fast track job creation in Delta State. After extensive consultation, they put together a skill acquisition centre, to teach unemployed youths, skills in FASHION DESIGN, CAKE BAKING, ICT, GSM REPAIRS, FASHION ACCESSORIES and MAKEOVER. As of 2017, the vocational school has graduated nearly 600 adults.

To create an organization that will outlive them the Tunde Ekpekurede Foundation was incorporated in 2014 with corporate affairs commission as a membership organization.

With experienced gained in various projects, Tunde Ekpekurede Foundation reasoned that early stage intervention in indigent families, communities and schools will drastically reduce the seeming later economic disempowerment of adults. In August 2016, Tunde Ekpekurede Foundation decided to offer a unique aspirational and talent development intervention to indigent kids, communities and public schools. In March 2017, the Delta State Government officially approved Tunde Ekpekurede Foundation aspirational method of social intervention in its public schools under a PPP arrangement provided this is 100% funded by the foundation.

Under the PPP arrangement with the Delta State Government, the foundation now has over 1200 kids under its mentorship program, is providing subjects experts to fill up gaps in public schools, providing writing desks and chairs for poor kids, providing meals, uniforms, food and shelter to severely malnourished children and supporting teachers, community associations and parents for the education of children.

Today the activities of the foundation are carried out under the following project titles:

  1. The Private Public-School Project supporting kids in public schools for better educational outcomes
  2. After School Academy
  3. Adult Vocational School
  4. Community Leadership Development Initiative
  5. Youth Entrepreneurship & Leadership Academy
  6. Advocacy for Children’s right to Quality Education

Longer term, the Foundation is seeking to build a large membership organization, including high Net Worth Individuals and Organizations as stakeholders to help build the ideals of this organization and build the next generation of a new Nigeria.
